National Transportation AI Consortium

Trustworthy AI for the people who move America.

Three leading transportation research institutes are joining forces with agencies, universities, industry and the public so no one in transportation has to figure out AI alone.

Founding members

UMTRI, ITS Berkeley and TTI launched NTAIC as an academic, non-commercial partner to help agencies evaluate, deploy and govern AI. No product to sell, only evidence to share.

Our approach

We listen first.

AI is moving faster than agencies can evaluate it, and too often each agency is deciding alone. NTAIC starts from their questions, and it is built to complement federal efforts like FHWA's AI Deployment Center of Excellence, not duplicate them.

01 / LISTEN

Hear from the field

Sessions with state DOTs, transit agencies, industry and regulators about what they need from AI.

02 / SHAPE

Test a draft model

Participants react to a working course model, and demand decides what gets built first.

03 / BUILD

Deliver with partners

Training, playbooks and shared resources developed across all three institutes.

Education

Training at every level, from leadership briefings to hands-on certificates, so teams can lead on AI rather than react to it.

Governance & standards

Procurement guidance and evaluation frameworks that help every agency become an informed buyer.

Applied research

Work proven on real roads, like UMTRI's real-time near-miss tracking across Ann Arbor.

Course architecture

Training sized to each role.

Training at every level. Five workforce tiers set how deep each course goes, and eight disciplines supply the examples, so a few core courses can serve a whole agency.
